Pocketful of sand
The roaring maws have no pity for specks,
you flee the stench of fear, broken voices, steps
tell me if the stone still listens to the wind
if the sand keeps our home in a burning memory
you shout to ungrateful valleys this land my entrails
your echoes braving the storm between lair and the sea
the dust horizons, fire weddings rage in wild skies
march along monotonous banks to the edge
tied in knots in the bed of bitter laurel leaves
how do you say farewell to all you hold dear
you cradle a child that has no jacket
you cling to sand that scatters across the waves
Why, you ask, do I trust the sea
procedi lungo sponde monotone fino all’orlo
