Andromeda

Porto il nome di chi aspetta
un uomo da salvataggio:
egli è drago e cavaliere,
sono entrambe bestie armate.
Temo la mia voce umana
quando lo vedrò arrivare,
le sue mani e gli occhi tonti
umidi di sangue e mare.

Andromeda

Mine is the name of the one
who's waiting rescue from a man:
he is the dragon and the knight,
they are both beasts with arms.
I fear my human voice
when I see him coming near,
his hands and his dense eyes
damp with blood and sea.

Aiace

Questo pino presso il mare
sottile non si vede più,
è resina odorosa e ombra,
lungo l'arenile il sole
lascia solo il mio dolore.
Ciò che ognuno sa nessuno
veda: orrido è mutare
il pensiero in gesto – eppure
sarebbe la breve strada,
ali in fiamme di civetta
tra le corna della luna
vacca tiepida del cielo
messa a pascolo sul filo
della lama denudata.
Già mi vedo lungo il fiume
che mai più potrò lasciare
lo potrei se qualche voce
dietro a me dicesse Aiace, una voce
lo dovrebbe, ma senz'onta tace.

Ajax

By the sea so slender
this pine tree can't be seen
it is just resin smell and shadow,
along the shore the Sun
leaves my pain in shards.
What is commonplace
should not be seen: horrible is changing
thoughts into acts – yet
that would be the shortest cut,
owl's wings in flames
between the Moon's horns
tepid sky cow
grazing on the blade
of the unsheathed sword.
I can see me along the river
I will never leave
I could if someone's voice
behind me uttered Ajax, a voice
should, but hushes with no shame.
